Profile

If it involves cycling, windsurfing, golf or snowboarding - I will be interested - please ring me!  Daughter Olivia, wife Claire, three cats and two rabbits means I now spend more time talking about it than actually doing it!  Also a keen cook as long as the recipe involves chillies!

Specialisms

I enjoy (almost!) all aspects of being a Chartered Building Surveyor and being technically minded this has enabled me to specialise particularly in building pathology and defect investigation.  A practical, commercially driven 'can-do' approach to pre-acquisition surveys of both commercial and residential properties provides the ideal platform for the successful management of subsequent repair and refurbishment projects.

Aspects of building surveying you enjoy most

The variety that exists within the professional role of building surveyor is key.  Whether it is the building, the client, colleagues or co-consultants, each one of these provides a fresh and new challenge to every instruction we deal with.  Understanding the client's position, their objectives and commercial drivers is essential in meeting their requirements on a professional and personal basis.  Allied to this, it is the enjoyment of working with like-minded individuals throughout the property profession that allows fresh ideas and initiatives to be pursued.

Favourite building/complex

This often changes according to my mood what buildings I have visited recently.  Currently, it is the Macarthur Glen retail outlet centre in Swindon!  This is not as odd as it sounds as the retail areas are within the old Grade 2 listed workshops belonging to the Great Western Railway.  With sympathetic design, these have been brilliantly adapted to provide a modern retail experience whilst maintaining much of the original industrial character and fabric appearance.  I think even Brunel himself would be impressed!
